KitchenAid KCDS100T 1 HP Food Waste Disposer Review

The KitchenAid brand and quality is synonymous with one another, and the KitchenAid KCDS100T (see today's price) does not disappoint. Each of KitchenAid’s garbage disposals are designed and manufactured in the United States in order to ensure their quality. The KitchenAid brand, which is now owned by Whirlpool, has been in business since 1919, and the innovativeness and quality of their products keeps generation after generation of consumers returning to the label.

The KitchenAid KCDS100T offers all of the bells and whistles that one could want in a food waste disposer. Its continuous feed design makes for quick and simple cleanup after meals are over, and its powerful 1 horsepower motor can reach up to 1,725 rotations per minute, which provides effective grinding action. The three stage grinding technology and design of this unit combines with its premium sound reduction features to assist you in quietly and efficiently reducing your household’s waste volume. In fact, KitchenAid’s patented Sound Seal Plus technology makes the disposer quiet even when it is grinding stingy or hard foods.

Best Features

  • 1,725 RPMs – After extensive testing, KitchenAid has determined that the most effective grinding of food waste takes place when the motor reaches a maximum speed of 1,725 rpm. Although other competitors might advertise higher rpms, this does not necessarily mean that they grind food more effectively. In fact, higher rpms begin to become overkill and use more energy than what is needed. For this reason, each KitchenAid model is features a motor that rotates at 1,725 rpm.
  • Continuous Feed Action – The continuous feed design of the KCDS100T makes cleanup after mealtime quick and simple. The disposal is connected to a power switch, and all you have to do to operate it is flip the switch on. A generously sized splashguard prevents small objects from accidentally falling into the disposal, and for when accidents do happen, an overload protection with manual reset is there to assist.
  • MultiGrind Plus Technology – KitchenAid garbage disposals are the only models on the market to offer this advanced, unique technology. It is this three stage grinding technology that makes the KitchenAid KCDS100T the ideal model to deal with stringy foods, like corn husks and celery. Special sensors included in the design detect potential problems before they develop and help the unit adjust itself accordingly.

My Story and Experiences

My old InSinkErator “builder’s grade” ¾ HP garbage disposal gave out last month. It was extremely loud and vibrated my stainless steel sink so much that it occasionally woke up my 18-month old daughter – who sleeps on the second floor of my home. This mama needs her quiet time while the baby is asleep, so naturally, I started researching food waste disposers that were specifically marketing quiet operation. That’s when I stumbled across the KitchenAid KCDS100T 1 HP Continuous Feed Food Waste Disposer and decided to give it a try.

I may or may not have spent a couple of weeks bragging to my husband about buying this model. It has been in my home for over a month now, and I am thoroughly pleased with it. I decided to spend the extra cash to upgrade from the basic model, and it was worth every penny.

What’s really unique about this model is that it utilizes a flexible, thick rubber connection to the discharge pipe, which drastically cuts down on the amount of noise and vibration the sink and plumbing make when the garbage disposal is on. The interface on the sink inlet is also specially designed to reduce noise output. In short, this baby is probably 80% quieter than my garbage disposal.

Here’s a handy tip that I haven’t seen addressed in any other reviews: at first, I thought there might be something wrong with the grinder action because it delayed 1-2 seconds, depending on what type of food waste I had shoved down the chute, it would stop and restart on its own. Turns out the KitchenAid disposer does this because the machine reverses direction each time it is turned on. According to KitchenAid, the garbage disposal is designed to do this on purpose because it keeps food particles from accumulating in the grinder (impressive design feature!). The stop/restart action automatically releases food that adheres to the grinder’s walls. The design really is smart, and you can color me impressed.

Based on other reviews I’ve read, and my own personal experience with it, I’m expecting to enjoy many years of reliable use from the KitchenAid KCDS100T 1 HP Continuous Feed Food Waste Disposer. I should also mention that installation is really simple. It only took me 30 minutes to do it myself, and I didn’t have to call my husband to help.

My Conclusion

The KitchenAid KCDS100T 1 HP Continuous Feed Food Waste Disposer is not the cheapest food waste disposer on the market, but, in my humble opinion, it is definitely worth spending the few extra bucks to upgrade to this model. It’s something our growing family uses every day, and on the slim chance that it should develop a problem, I know I’ve got KitchenAid’s great warranty to back me up.
