My Story and Experiences
My wife and I have always had InSinkErator brand garbage disposals in the homes we’ve lived in. Over the years, as our family expanded, they’ve held up well to the amount of use and abuse we’ve put them through. We recently moved into a new home in a retirement community, and when the builder’s grade garbage disposer went out, we naturally went shopping for an InSinkErator brand replacement.
The Badger 15ss was a model that I was unfamiliar with. The primary reason I purchased it was because its dimensions were the same as the old model underneath my kitchen sink, and I wanted the job to be as straightforward as possible. I’ve always been handy around the house, but I’m by no means a professional plumber. Still, I found the installation instructions simple to follow. With a helping hand from my wife, it took less than 45 minutes to install the new unit. The installation/user’s manual is well-written and easy to follow.
This Badger model is a continuous feed model. It doesn’t have sound insulation built in, so it’s louder than some of the other previous models we’ve had. The grinding chamber has a max capacity of 26 oz, and the motor’s power tops out at 3/4th a horsepower. It’s more powerful than what we need, but it will be handy when we have the kids and our friends over. Because the grinding components and the sink flange are made from stainless steel, we expect to be able to use the disposer for many years to come. One aspect of the unit that I liked is that it can be used in homes that are wired for septic tank usage.
My primary complaint about the InSinkErator Badger 15ss Garbage Disposal is the fact that, although it's marketed as having a space saving design, the disposer comes housed in a plastic shroud that takes more room than is necessary. If space is at a premium in your kitchen, you know what an annoyance this can be. I simply removed the shroud and had no problems to date.
My Conclusion
If you can put up with a bit of noise when your garbage disposal is running, the Badger 15ss is a reliable option. It has an affordable price tag and is covered by InSinkErator’s 3 year, “We Come to You” parts and labor warranty. It was easy to install, even for an old geezer like me. Performance wise, it gets the job done, and you can’t ask for much more than that.

This is not the Badger-SS model when clicking the link to amazon. The only place so far as I have seen for the badger-SS model is at LOWES.COM I was looking for the most recent badger garbage disposal because I have seen items sold from 5 years ago as the manufacturing date and I want something updated.
